Obi-Wan Kenobi
Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen make their much-anticipated return to the Star Wars franchise in Obi-Wan Kenobi, a new series that takes place 10 years after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Christensen's return to Star Wars is an unexpected and welcome surprise to fans, especially with McGregor hinting that the two will face off again over the course of the series.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is set to start filming in early 2021.
Ahsoka
Following her live-action debut in The Mandalorian, Ahsoka will finally get her own standalone limited series, helmed by The Clone Wars and Rebels creator Dave Filoni and Mandalorian showrunner Jon Favreau. Little is known about this series so far, but we know it takes place during the same timeline as The Mandalorian, so we can assume we'll follow Ahsoka on her hunt for Grand Admiral Thrawn. Rosario Dawson will star as the titular character.
The Book of Boba Fett
During the season finale of The Mandalorian, fans returned to Jabba's Palace along with Boba Fett and Fennec Shand. Fett dethrones a beefy Bib Fortuna and takes his place, while a title card teased the return of Fett and Shand in a new series dropping December 2021. Little is known about the series thus far, but we do know Robert Rodriguez will serve as an executive producer.
Rangers of the New Republic
Similar to Ahsoka, Filoni and Favreau will develop a second show set during the same timeline as The Mandaloriantitled Rangers of the New Republic. The company hinted that all three series by the same team will be interconnected, meaning we can expect a crossover event to come in the next few years.
Andor
Diego Luna and Alan Tudyk will return to the Star Wars universe in Andor, a prequel series to Rogue Onethat follows Cassian Andor and K-2SO as they find their place in the rebellion. Andor began filming in 2020 and is set for a 12-episode release in 2022.
The Bad Batch
The Bad Batch made their debut in The Clone Wars, returning for a fantastic story arc in the series' final season. Continuing on their success, the team of rogue Clone Troopers will return in a new animated series that takes place following the events of Revenge of the Sith.
Star Wars: Visions
In 2021, Disney+ will release Star Wars: Visions, a collection of 10 animated short films taking place in the Star Wars universe. Each film will come from different animation studios, and according to the Star Wars Twitter, the films will celebrate "the Star Wars galaxy through the lens of the world's best Japanese anime creators."
Lando
Little is known about the untitled Lando series, but Disney announced the smooth-talking smuggler will return to the small screen. This series will be helmed by Justin Simien, director of Dear White People and Bad Hair.
The Acolyte
The High Republic, an era that takes place hundreds of years before the Phantom Menace, has not yet been explored in film or television in the Star Wars universe. It will make its much-anticipated live-action debut in a new series lead by Leslye Headland, creator of the hit Neflix series Russian Doll. According to Disney, The Acolyte will be a mystery-thriller that takes place near the end of the High Republic.
A Droid Story
There is no Star Wars without droids, and two of the most well-known return to the canon in A Droid Story. The animated series will follow R2-D2 and C-3PO as they meet and guide a new hero.
Every new Star Wars film announced by Disney
In addition to 10 new series debuting on Disney+, the studio also announced two new films that would begin development soon:
- Rogue Squadron: Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins joins Star Wars as the first woman to direct a film in the franchise. It is set to release on Christmas 2023.
- Untitled Taika Waititi Project: Cult-favorite director Taika Waititi returns to the Star Wars family to take on a new untitled film. Waititi played IG-11 in The Mandalorian and directed the final episode of its first season.
